I completely agree that higher-level education helps to improve health care practice and policies. ADN nursing program focuses on clinical skills but the BSN program more emphasizes evidence-based practice and nursing leadership and management. Higher education can make a difference in patient safety in many situations. Registerednursing.org, a group of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania found that surgical patients in Magnet hospitals had 14% lower odds of inpatient death within 30 days and 12% lower odds of failure-to-rescue compared with patients cared for in non-Magnet hospitals. Researchers found that the positive outcomes were due to the larger number of BSN-educated RNs that work in hospitals with Magnet status.
