For this forum, you need to find an example of Beethoven or his music being used for a political purpose. Then, post a link to the example in the forum along with an explanation of what the example is and why it’s relevant for thinking about Beethoven and politics. I’m not interested in whether the politics being demonstrated are good or bad; I’m only interested in how and why Beethoven or his music are being used to promote an agenda. If you discuss your personal political opinions in your post, you will receive a poor grade. Some examples of items that you could post include a political propaganda film that uses Beethoven
or his music in some way; an article that discusses Beethoven’s music being performed in a political context; a movie scene about a political issue that uses Beethoven or his music in some way; a person of color using Beethoven or his
music as part of a discussion about race; or anything else that you can justify
posting. Historical or current items are all welcome. I’m willing to accept broad definitions of “political,” but be sure that you can justify your contribution to the forum. Don’t post an example that a classmate has already used.
